Water leak detection

A stain on the ceiling, a cold wall, a meter that keeps turning with every tap closed: we trace the source of the leak without opening walls at random, using a thermal camera, tracer gas or acoustic listening depending on the surface.

What is included

  • Travel within 40 kilometres there and back, and all the detection equipment.
  • The search until the leak is located, within the stated time.
  • A written report, with photos and the exact location.
  • A check of the pipework around the point found.

What is not included

  • Repairing the leak: this is a separate job, priced once the source is known.
  • Making good the finishes, if opening up proves unavoidable.
  • Travel beyond 40 kilometres there and back, charged at CHF 1.30 per kilometre and shown before you pay.

Standard or complex search

There are two levels, depending on the size of the pipework and the number of areas to investigate. The standard search covers one home and a known section of pipework. The complex search is needed when several sections are involved, when the pipes run inside walls or floors over long distances, or when a first search has not found the leak. Both are listed with their prices on the services page.

If you are unsure, book the standard search: if locating the leak calls for more than this level covers, the next step is priced for you before it goes ahead.

How the visit works

  1. An on-site inspection and a meter reading, with you.
  2. Pressurising the system and isolating each section.
  3. Detection: thermal imaging, acoustic listening or tracer gas, depending on the surface.
  4. Marking the location, a written report, and the next steps.

Signs of a hidden leak

A water bill that rises with no change in your habits, a meter that turns with every tap closed, a stain or a tide mark, paint that blisters, a damp smell that keeps coming back, a floor that feels unusually warm above underfloor heating, mould that always returns to the same spot.

Water damage: the first few hours

Turn off the water supply. Photograph what you see before you clean anything up. Tell your insurer. And do not break anything open until the source has been located: an opening made in the wrong place costs more than the search itself. If you rent, also tell the property management company (régie) or the landlord, who normally arranges leak detection in a rented home.

Frequently asked questions

What if the leak is not found?

The report records what was tested and what was ruled out. If locating the leak calls for more than the service you booked, the next step is priced for you before it goes ahead.

Can I send the report to my insurer?

Yes. The report includes the photos, the method used, the location of the leak and the date of the visit.

Do I need to be there?

An adult must be able to give access to the home and the water meter for the whole time slot.
