By the lake or above the railway, not the same water
About 16 °fH by the lake, from 21 to 28 °fH higher up, measured in 2025.
In Montreux, tap water comes from mountain springs and from Lake Geneva, and it changes with the height of the neighbourhood. By the lake, from Veytaux to Clarens, it comes mainly from the Bouveret spring and stays around 16 °fH (French degrees of hardness). Between the motorway and the railway line, the network is fed by the Confin du Renard spring: karst water, richer in limescale, which ranged from 21 to 28 °fH in 2025. Chailly, La Tour-de-Peilz and Vevey mainly receive water from the large Les Avants spring.
The harder the water, the more limescale builds up where it is heated: in the tank and on the element of the water heater, then in tap aerators and mixer cartridges. A water heater that takes longer to heat up, or that whistles, is often the first sign. Water heater descaling can be booked in Montreux at the same fixed price as in Fribourg, as can replacing a mixer tap or a trap.

The Riviera, just beyond the included kilometres
Montreux is a little over half an hour from our base in the Gibloux. The price of every service includes a set number of kilometres by road, and the Riviera begins just beyond them: a few francs in Vevey or Saint-Légier, around fifteen in central Montreux, more in Territet and Villeneuve. The table gives the amount for each town, and the booking calculates it for your address and shows it before you pay. We would rather say so than hide it in the price.
The time slots follow the technician’s actual day: when a job is already booked in Vevey or Clarens, the drive to your home starts from that appointment. That is often what opens up an earlier slot.

Common questions in Montreux
Do you come up to Glion, Caux or Les Avants?
Yes, every service can be booked there, just as by the lake. The travel cost rises a little with the climb, and the table gives the amount. Enter your address at the start of the booking, and the answer and the full price appear before you give any personal details.
Is water damage covered by the ECA?
No: in the canton of Vaud, the law excludes burst pipes and water seepage from the cantonal building insurance. It is the building’s water damage insurance, with a private insurer, that pays out, depending on the policy. To locate a leak before anything is opened, leak detection can also be booked in Montreux, with a written report to forward to the insurer or the property manager.
I live in a flat: who books?
A tap or a trap in your own home, you can book yourself. For anything that concerns the building, a riser pipe or a leak that reaches the neighbours, it is normally the property manager or the owner who gives the instruction: pass this page on to them, the price and the travel cost are known in advance.
