Sump pump replacement in Lausanne and Valais

What a sump pump does

Also called a lifting or sewage pump, it removes water from a point lower than the outlet drain: a converted basement, a laundry room, a toilet below street level, a plant room, a collection pit. Without it, nothing goes back up. That is why a breakdown is noticed straight away, and why it cannot wait.

Signs that a pump is reaching the end of its life

• It no longer starts, or only after being restarted by hand.
• It runs, but the level does not drop, or drops very slowly.
• It switches on constantly, even with no water coming in.
• A new noise: knocking, humming, vibration in the pipe.
• The level alarm goes off, or the float stays stuck.
• Repeated breakdowns on equipment that is more than ten years old.

When the pump is not to blame

Water that no longer drains is not always down to the pump. A blocked drain further down, a stuck non-return valve or a jammed float cause exactly the same symptoms. Replacing the pump would then change nothing.

That is what the photos help us rule out before your appointment. If the doubt is about the pipe, a camera inspection costs less than a pointless replacement, and we will tell you so.

What we need to know

Attach photos of the installation, of the pump in place and of its rating plate to your booking. In the notes, tell us what you have noticed, whether it handles waste water or clean water, and whether the room is easy to access.

With this information, we confirm before the visit what the appointment includes and what would be charged as extra. Nothing goes ahead without your agreement.
